In NonPartisan governments it is not a matter of “working across the aisle.” There is no aisle. Elected officials are constantly engaging with the people, as they are looked upon as individuals and not interchangeable party candidates. They have to earn your vote every day.
Partisan governments tend to be very party related, taking cues for priorities and appointments from the majority political party. Once chosen by their party, candidates tend to be more secure in their election and re-election.
NonPartisan governments are more inclusive and seek opinions from and give opportunities to diverse racial, religious, ethnic, economic and political individuals. West Windsor’s volunteer boards are a great example of this and people have been remained in positions even with a change in administrations, while giving opportunities to newcomers.
